A Miniature Spectacle, Part 1
At The Museum and Jurassic Technology in Los Angeles. Frankenstein (Mortal Toys) is a toy theater production of Eric Ehn's contemplative and abstracted adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, told with the visual vocabulary of 19th century landscape painting, and portraiture. It is accompanied by the music of Severin Behnen. The voice of Frankenstein performed by Chris Payne. The Los Angeles premiere of full work at the Velaslavasay Panorama, December 2007; New York premiere at HERE Arts Center, January 2008. Additional voices and sound by Dana Wilson.
Created by the vast performance collective, The Little Fakers (co-founded by Susan Simpson, Jen Hofer, Alison Heimstead, Andrew Choate, Janet Sarbanes, Beth Peterson and Eli Presser). This ongoing marionette serial, is set on the eastern edge of Sunset Boulevard, and merges fictional and non-fictional characters and buildings with the history of the neighborhood. Incorporating aspects of soap operas, westerns and traditional marionette theater, Sunset Chronicles is a hyper-local contemporary folk epic. It was performed at various venues in and around Los Angeles including The Noah Purifoy Foundation in Joshua Tree, CA, C-Level, The Veleslavasay Panorama, Il Corral, and The Manual Archives (2004-2008) This open-ended narrative presented the possibility of more to come.
